Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Ledger.  Your body is designed to heal itself but at times needs assistance in removing obstacles to help facilitate the body to regain its balance and health.

Craniosacral therapy offers a wide range of benefits, some include:

Stress (which is the # 1 reason most people go to visit their MD)

We have all been told to manage our stress. CST is highly relaxing and helps reduce stress and tension in your body by calming down the nervous system utilizing a gentle hands-on technique.  By calming down the nervous system you will feel more grounded and peaceful.

Pain

CST has been known to help with chronic pain conditions such as migraines, back, neck, joint pain and, people dealing with fibromyalgia.  By releasing tension and helping to improve circulation, CST helps to alleviate pain and discomfort.

Supports Your Immune Function

CST helps to stimulate your immune system, especially those with chronic illnesses or autoimmune disorders.  When your body is under a lot of stress, your immune system can become weakened and it’s easier to catch a cold or something else.  By helping to reduce your stress levels, your immune system can function better which then helps to improve your health and overall well-being.

Emotional Well Being

Many people have found CST helps them to release stored-up emotions and feelings that often show up as tension and stress leading to anxiety and/or depression.   Working with your body will incorporate assistance in alleviating the tension and help you to release any stored-up emotions.

More Sleep anyone?

CST uses a light touch to monitor the body’s rhythm and then applies gentle pressure to help release tension.  Released tension and stress allow for improved relaxation and deeper sleep.

Who Can Benefit from Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy can be beneficial for people of all ages. Conditions responsive to CST therapy include:

  • Migraines and headaches

  • Back and neck pain

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Emotional trauma

  • Anxiety and depression

  • PTSD

  • Insomnia

What to Expect During a Craniosacral Therapy Session

During the session, you will lie down on a treatment table fully clothed. Your CST therapist will assess the craniosacral system and will focus on areas of tension or restriction. Using subtle pressure about the weight of a nickel, they will work to help your body release tension and improve the overall balance in your body.

CST is highly relaxing and many people find themselves drifting off to sleep and that is okay.  A session is typically 45 minutes to an hour.

If you are dealing with stress, tension, pain, emotional upsets, headaches or sleep issues, CST offers a natural and gentle healing solution.  CST stimulates the body’s natural healing process by restoring balance and alignment and promoting deep relaxation.
